We had a lovely experience at Jennifer’s Restaurant-Picnic today! It’s such a beautiful and cozy place — warm atmosphere and friendly staff. We ordered the Wiener Schnitzel, and it was absolutely delicious! The portions were very generous and everything was full of flavour. Thank you so much for the great service and wonderful food — you’re amazing! We will definitely be back again.
Good Schnitzel and burgers here! Come over and enjoy it if you are passing by. You can eat directly there or have the food to go. Try also the french speciality :).
The little things matter. There are a lot of small flourishes at Jennifer’s Restaurant that makes me think the owners are all about win-win (ie how to find ways that will both satisfy the customer and keep the business sustainable and not wear out the staff). It’s very well thought out and not always about customer first or even profit first, but a good balance that makes everyone happy. There are lots that I appreciate here. The Food. Of course the food is excellent. We had the Schnitzel Burger, Schnitzel 2pc, and the Lemon Chicken. We also splurged for the gravy, which on first glance at 3, seems like something to balk at but this looks to be genuine homemade meat gravy with little chunks of meat still visible, not the powdery stuff. And for that, 3 is a steal. The portions were large for the 17 plates. They have done a lot in the background to keep the costs down but not impacting service which I found very delightful Cash only. This alone is not special. A lot of small businesses have to do this to save on the punishing credit card fees. They have an atm machine on site which is also not special either. What I thought was brilliant was that they’ve included taxes into their menu price. The 3 gravy came to 3, not 3.36 saving on time to hand out change, time on their side to deal with change afterwards and making the line move a lot quicker. Then there is the ordering. It’s a pull system. They will take orders when they’re ready to take orders. This ensures the kitchen and staff are not overwhelmed and each order is made separately thus ensuring plates don’t sit too long. It keeps the line flowing at a steady, moderate, but predictable pace, not in spits and spurts. Then there is the staff. I spied 3 people in the back. One taking orders, one preparing, one cooking. For a restaurant this size and to put out that much food at fairly good clip is uber efficient. I waited less than 10 minutes for my order. All of that leads to a (hopefully) sustainable way of keeping this plates at 17. The food was a joy to eat but the place is a joy to watch too.
One of those ‘take it or leave it’ places. Local Food Truck ish place but with established tables. Great lemon pepper chicken. Atmosphere is great as long as the weather is good.
I can't believe I'd never been here before! I've heard so many great things about Jennifer's I had to try it out myself! Pictured is my delicious lemon pepper chicken with the most amazing potatoes & a nice side salad ! I also purchased a wiener schnitzel meal for take out & I shared it for lunch with my Husband the next day! Portions are incredible! I can't wait to go back & try something else!
Stopped in today for a late lunch on our way back to Winnipeg. We've missed out on this place a couple times before, so we ordered a little variety so we could say we tried a few things. They did NOT disappoint! The wife had the Lemon Pepper chicken which was to die for (her words) and I had the wiener schnitzel; again, absolutely perfect! Thin and tender with a perfect crisp and not too much salt. The side salad was delicious as well and the half-mashed, buttery potatoes took me back to MY Oma's cooking when I was young. We started with the escargot (of which there must've been 50 for all of 10, with two slices of pan toasted garlic bread) and the Hungarian goulash which was flavorful and PACKED with meat, etc. Cozy, covered picnic tables and quick, friendly service round out the offering here. Worth the drive from Winnipeg (or anywhere else) just for a great, homemade lunch!
Sadly this is their last year in business. We moved to Winnipeg 10 years ago and discovered this place early on while taking our daughter to summer camp. We stopped in here one day because there was a huge amount of patrons so we figured they were something right! And they were! We discovered the most interesting and diverse menu with unique types of meat and have enjoyed popping in here several times over the years. In past we had tried the schnitzel, frog legs, alligator and more. This year they have streamlined the menu to make their final summer easy (their words). But we still enjoyed a kangaroo burger and escargot! A must try before they close forever! Cash only but there is an atm on site! No bathroom. A food truck with a restaurant feel and loads of picnic tables.
Had the 3pc schnitzel to go. It was delicious! I highly recommend checking this place out, but check the menu first. They don’t do substitutions and have limitations, what’s on the menu is what’s available, no exceptions. It’s worth the drive and finding something you want to try on the menu. This is also their last year/summer open. So visit soon or you’ll miss out on so me exceptional food and amazing and friendly chefs.
